TOT to Meet Ohio's Policy Makers Technology for Ohio's Tomorrow (TOT) Executive Director Sarah Briggs and members of the Advisory Council will meet with state legislators and legislators-elect at a reception in Columbus on December 2. This event, hosted by TOT, will provide the Advisory Council an opportunity to discuss key technology issues with elected officials. In addition, TOT will gain insight that will help inform and educate technology consumers about legislative and regulatory issues that impact Ohioans. We look forward to working with state legislators and policy makers to promote advancements in technology that will enhance economic development, educational opportunity and health care quality throughout Ohio. As we continue to raise awareness about technological growth in the state, TOT will advocate for public policies that inspire and encourage innovation, and serve as a statewide forum for consumers and organizations on technology issues. Ohio: The New Silicon Valley? Chambers of commerce in Cleveland, Youngstown and Pittsburgh have announced "The Tech Belt Initiative," a proposal to increase tech-based development by connecting these cities not only geographically – but also economically. Nearly 30 business-development groups, universities and hospital systems from Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown and Pittsburgh have formed a steering committee to develop economic opportunities in alternative energy, biosciences, information technology, robotics, advanced manufacturing and advanced materials. The committee seeks to attract venture capital and entrepreneurial talent to the region and obtain state and federal funds to support emerging tech-based developments. The "Tech Belt" would be the fourth largest industrial/technology region in the nation, with a potential economic impact of more than $1 billion in annual academic research and development.
